My brother is the baby of the family, and despite now being 23 he's still treated as such! He's grown up, gone to uni, moved home and now moved into a flat of his own, but my mum and dad still dote on him. They're always cooking for him, driving him places, all sorts. It's sweet, and he's a great kid so he deserves it, and we're always telling him how lucky he is. My mum's already got his christmas present - an iPad 2 if you don't mind! I might have to send him the details of some flower delivery bristol so he can order some nice bouquest for my mum, she loves fresh flowers around the house! He's going to have a hard time finding a girlfriend that dotes on him that much though, his past ladies have been a but more into themselves than him, and he's too used to being spoilt! The Allegory of the Cave was an allegory used by Plato within a fictional dialogue between Socrates and Glaucon in The Republic. Socrates describes a group of people who have been chained to the wall of cave their entire lives, with nothing but a blank wall to stare at. Shadows are projected onto the wall by passing things in front of the fire behind them. These shadows are the closest that the prisoners get to viewing reality. Socrates goes on to explain that a philosopher is one who has been freed from the cave and can recognise that the wall shadows are not reality whatsoever. The Allegory fits within Plato’s Theory of Forms, in which “Forms” (or “Ideas”) possess the highest kind of reality as opposed to the material world of change that we know through sensation. Real knowledge is knowledge of these forms and this is the knowledge the philosopher has. You may find yourself barred from finding out such interesting information if you leave your iPad 2 charger at home!
I love living alone, I have so much space and keep everything tidy, I don't have to deal with other people's mess, smelly foods, waking me up, none of it. Similarly I can come home in the middle of the night a bit worse for wear and I don't have to tip-toe or answer to anyone! The downside? The cost! If I had a flatmate most of it would be halved, but it's really pricey on your own! Rent, council tax, electricity, gas, tv license. They're the basics. Then most of us have internet (with phone and line rental), mobile phone bill, insurance. If you have a car as well you must have to be earning bucketloads as a private investment banker at Rowan Dartington or something! I don't understand how I can have a life and live on my own without working three jobs! Photo: Mitchell J. Goldstein (Flickr)
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aka Will and Kate have been on their tour of Canada and Kate looks amazing! She is so beautiful and her choices of outfits really suit her and look sophisticated whilst being modern and fashionable. In her first day she changed three times and looked lovely in a formal outfit and also women’s summer dresses. Kate always gets a really good reaction wherever she goes and I think she will make a great queen! Picture: kasa.com
There are certain things at the moment that seemed to be despised by everyone. Traffic Wardens, Investment Bankers and genetically modified foods. But I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
Yes if you cover vegetables in pesticides it may be harmful for us. But genetically engineering crops so that they are the most cost effective is only another form of germination is it not? Selecting the seeds from the best plants and putting them together to form a crop of super plant. Or maybe I am misunderstanding the entire theory. I don't agree with GM babies for example. I think messing with the human condition and designing your own baby before birth is a bit too far. But a plant? Come on. What harm can it do? Still I can see this argument is going to mark me as popular as a Rowan Dartington employee handing out parking tickets on the side. I just think people are a little to quick to condemn something that maybe isn't doing any harm at all.
